FREDERICK & CARROLL COUNTIES, MARYLAND

Origin: Carroll County was formed in 1837 from Baltimore and Frederick Counties (Chapter 256, Acts of 1835; confirmed by Chapter 19, Acts of 1836, which was passed January 19, 1837). The County was named for Charles Carroll of Carrollton (1737-1832), Revolutionary War statesman and a Maryland signer of Declaration of Independence.

Origin: Frederick County was created in 1748 from Baltimore and Prince George's counties (Chapter 15, Acts of 1748). The County probably was named after Frederick Calvert (1731-1771), sixth and last Lord Baltimore, who was the Proprietor of Maryland from 1751 until his death in 1771 at Naples, Italy.
