| Origin:
Carroll County was formed in 1837 from Baltimore and Frederick Counties (Chapter 256,
Acts of 1835; confirmed by Chapter 19, Acts of 1836, which was passed January 19, 1837).
The County was named for Charles Carroll of Carrollton (1737-1832), Revolutionary War
statesman and a Maryland signer of Declaration of Independence.

Frederick County was created in 1748 from Baltimore and Prince
George's counties (Chapter 15, Acts of 1748). The County probably
was named after Frederick Calvert (1731-1771), sixth and last
Lord Baltimore, who was the Proprietor of Maryland from 1751
until his death in 1771 at Naples, Italy.
