Looie,
Looie
by Josh Kurtz
Looie, Looie is a slightly tongue-in-cheek look
at those who would be lieutenant governor in 2002 - and beyond.
Suggestions welcome.
Here's this week's wannabe:
When John Kane, trucking magnate and maybe republican
candidate for governor, unveiled the 11 members of his exploratory
committee this week, we were reminded of the Statue of Liberty -
but not in a good way. It was tired, the poor (campaigners), the
sick of the Maryland GOP.
Only one name stood out as fresh and promising:
Del. David Brinkley of Frederick County. So he's our Looie,
Looie of the Week.
Brinkley is one of the most decent guys in Annapolis
on either side of the aisle. A straight shooter. A conservative,
without being too far right. A family man. An insurance man. A cancer
survivor, with an inspiring story to tell.
And what other potential candidate for lieutenant
governor has such high name recognition? Get someone named Huntley
to run for governor and they might even beat Cronkite!
